If you are one of the millions of people out there today that have purchased a computer but you did not received restore disk with your computer or you have lost your restore disk then you might just be in luck by using a guide. Before diving into the specifics let me tell you a little about how the process works so that when I start the instruction you won't be lost in translation on what the heck I am talking about.
The restore disk itself is basically just an image of files placed onto a CD or DVD that your computer can use to load up files. The image of that disk is a lot of times stored on your computer to use so that you don't have to worry about keeping up with the actual disk itself.
The quick process of restoring your computer back to its factory settings is as simple as telling your computer to use that disc image to restore everything back to its original out of the box condition.
Before you run out and wipe your computer out and back to its original condition be aware that it will delete all your program and files that you have placed on your computer since you purchased the computer. If you don't want to lose that data then it's best to back it up to a device for safe keeping.
There are several options that you can utilize if you want to save your information. If you have more than 1 gigabyte worth of information to save then I would invest in a portable hard drive. Portable hard drives are simple to use and do not need any installation to use. 99% of today's portable hard drives are plug & plug which simply plugs into any USB port. Once the device is plugged in and ready for use you simply need to drag and drop your data over to the portable device.
Second option is much like the portable hard drive and it's called a flash drive (or thumb drive). The flash drive is also a plug & play device and simple just plugs straight into the USB port. The difference is mainly the storage volume between the two devices. Flash drives run anywhere from $10 - $70 depending on what size you need for your data.
Portable hard drives from anywhere from $80 - up depending on what size you need to use for your data.
Once you have your data backed up it's time to wipe your computer. Print this instruction out as your computer will off during this step of the process.
1. Restart your computer or turn the PC on.
2. Once the main screen appears begin to tap the F8 key on your keyboard until your see the option to repair your computer.
3. From the option choose your region. (Mine is US) and click okay.
4. Next you will need to use your user account. If you haven't ever setup an administrator account then select your user name from the list and click okay.
5. Now you will have the option to select the factor image restore. Click okay and wait for the installation to complete.
6. Once your computer is finished restoring your computer back to its factory settings simple plug in your portable hard drive or flash drive and move your files back over to your computer and you're all set.
Final note: If your restoring your computer back to its factory settings because of a virus contamination that was irreversible then you will want to scan your files for viruses before dragging them to the portable devices to prevent the same viruses from attacking your computer again.
